    • William Pollard II was born to William Pollard I and Mary (Anderson) Pollard about 1760 in Hanover County, Virginia.
      He married Elizabeth (Smelt) Dabney, the widow of Isaac Dabney of King William County and daughter of the Rev. John Smelt of Essex County. They had two children: Mary Anderson and Elizabeth Smelt. Elizabeth died and William remarried to Elizabeth (Dabney) Shackelford, widow of Lyne Shackelford and daughter of George and Elizabeth Price Dabney. They had one child, George William Pollard, who was born about 1814.
      He served as clerk of Hanover County from 1781 to 1829. His exceptional care earned him the nickname of Billy Particular. In 1804, he built a fine mansion near Studley named Williamsville that still stands in well-maintained condition. He owned 1,122 acres at the time of his death in the last half of 1831 or the first half of 1832.

      He was clerk of Hanover Co. 1781-1829.

      According to Hanover land tax lists, William II died between tax list for 1831 and list for 1834. (Half-list for 1832 is missing and 1833 is illegible.) In PP tax list, change to estate occurred between 1831 and 1832.

      Isaac Dabney died in 1784.

      9 Apr 1785, signed with other vestrymen a resolution to conform to rules and procedures of Protestant Episcopal Church. Continued as vestryman thru Aug 1786, last entry in St. Paul’s Vestdry Book.

      Child of WP & Eliz. Dabney Shackelford: Dr. George William Pollard, b. abt 1814, who lived at Williamsville until his death. He m. Mary Peachey Todd of K&Q Co.

      Wm. Pollard lived at Williamsville. He built it in 1794. His will (7 Apr 1830-22 Feb 1832) named wife Elizabeth P., son Geo. William, dau.’s Mary Anderson Pollard (m. John Darracott) & Eliz. Smelt Pollard. (Gregory p. 152)
