  Mary Dabney was born to John and Anna (Harris) Dabney September 14, 1742 in Hanover County, Virginia. She married Thomas Minor of neighboring Spotsylvania County March 10, 1763. He was born August 5, 1740 to John and Sarah (Carr) Minor in Spotsylvania County. They had six children: Sarah Carr, born December 28, 1763, married Joseph Woolfolk, died September 28, 1782; William, born April 19, 1766, died unmarried October 25, 1794; Elizabeth, born September 26, 1768, died January 7, 1832, married Dabney Waller, born February 20, 1772, died June 6, 1849; John, born July 28, 1771, died unmarried September 20, 1802; Thomas, born April 10, 1774, married Dorothea Johnson, died January 11, 1838; Nancy, born April 4, 1778, married Joseph Waller, died June 24, 1802. During most years, Thomas was taxed on about 400 acres, about 5-13 slaves, and about 4-7 horses. During some years, the tax rolls listed him with the title of Captain, indicating that he served as an officer in the county militia. He made a deed of gift of a slave to his granddaughter, Sarah Minor Woolfolk, in October 1787. In January, 1799, he made a deed of gift of 141 acres to his son, Thomas Minor Jr. His name appears in the Spotsylvania records as executor or administrator for eight estates, witness for four wills, and guardian for 3 sets of minors, suggesting that he may have practiced some law. However, there was another Thomas Minor (1751-1834) in Spotsylvania County who was somewhat more prosperous in land and personal property, served actively in the army through most of th the Revolution, and was active in later county politics who may been involvved in some or all of these semi-legal functions.
