    • Eliza M. Dabney was born to Robert and Elizabeth (Winston) Dabney about 1795/96 in Louisa County, Virginia.
      She sold the interest in a mill that she inherited from her father’s estate to her brothers, Joseph F. and William Dabney, July 21, 1813, and her interest in her mother’s estate June 12, 1818, also to her brothers.
      She married John Walter Hillman September 18, 1819, in Louisa County. John died in late 1827. They had two children: Mary Elizabeth; and Isabella, born 1827/28. Eliza has not been found in the 1820 and 1830 censuses, but in 1840, she was 40-49 and iving in Richmond with a male 20-29 and two females 15-19. In the 1850 census. she was living in Richmond, aged 52, with her daughter, Isabella P. Hillman, 22, and Isabella Melvin, 7, probably a daughter of Eliza’s other daughter, Mary Elizabeth, who married Hiram Melvin February 20, 1840 in Richmond. In 1860, she was living in Richmond, aged 64, occupation mantua maker, real and personal property $2,000/$2,600. In her household were William McGruder, 35, cooper; Isabella McGruder, 31, Eliza’s daughter; P. Henry McGruder, 3; Isabella Melvin, 16; and 2 apprentice mantua makers. She was not found in the census in1870 and probably died before then.






      On 21 Jul 1813, Eliza M. sold to William & Joseph F. Dabney her right and interest in the mill she inherited from her father’s estate attached to the tract where Elizabeth Dabney now lives on the N fork of the Pamunkey R.

      On June 12, 1818, Eliza sold her interest in the mill and tract on the north fork of the Pamunkey River formerly owned by her deceased father and now occupied by her mother Elizabeth to her brothers Joseph and William Dabney.
