Notes |
- Isaac Dabney Jr. was born to Isaac Dabney Sr. and Susannah (Hill) Dabney in 1781/82 in King William County, Virginia. His father died when he was 2 or 3 years old.
He married Susannah Hill, a daughter of John Hill, in about 1797/98. When the unsuccessful store of his brother, William Dabney Jr., and cousin, Owen Dabney, closed in 1802, he continued the business through 1803, probably disposing of inventory.
Isaac and Susannah had two children who survived to adulthood, Alexander Hamilton, born about 1805/06 and Julia.
Susannah inherited 139 2/3 acres in 1797/98 from her father, John Hill. In 1799/1800, she inherited an additional 230 1/3 acres. In February, 1805, Isaac and Susannah sold the first tract to William Wyatt.
Isaac’s entry in the land tax lists changed from Isaac Dabney in 1807 to Isaac Dabney estate in 1809 (no list was made in 1808), indicating that he died between the recording of the two lists, aged about 26-28. The assessment of his land estate continued to 1826, when his son Alexander reached 21. The assessment of his estate in the personal property tax list, probably for the support of Susannah, terminated in 1814, because she transferred her dower share of the estate to her brother, Baylor Hill, in trust for her children and for the protection of John Hill, who was her legal security and guardian of her son, Alexander H. Dabney. The date of her death has not been found, but may have occurred in 1814 or 1815. [2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11]
