    • Edward Winston Henry was born to Patrick and Dorothea Spotswood (Dandridge) Henry January 21, 1794, at Long Island, Campbell County, Virginia.
      He married Jane Yuille October 19, 1817, in Halifax County. She was born September 9, 1799, at "Clarkton," Halifax Co., VA. They had eight children: Maria Rosalie, born 1818, married in Charlotte County to Dr. William Bernard Lewis, against her parent’s wishes, had children, died 1898 in Ashville, North Carolina; Dr. Thomas (twin), born 1821, moved to Florida because of tuberculosis, famous for Henry hounds (Birdsong Hounds), married Mary Frances Cunningham, had one child, delegate to convention to Tallahassee that adopted resolution for secession, served in Confederate Legislature, sat on committee that drafted constitution for Confederate State of Florida, established hospital facilities in West Florida during Civil War, died 1869 in Quincy, Florida; Patrick LaFayette (twin), born 1821, moved to Florida because of tuberculosis, married Emily Tillinghast, had no children, died 1852 at “Winston-on-the-Staunton” in Charlotte County; Lucy Dorothea, born 1823, married Octave Leighton, had two children, died 1898 in Petersburg; Sarah Jane, born 1825, married William H. Armistead, had children, died in Halifax County in 1899; Celine, born 1827, married John Robert Catlett, had children, widowed, died 1874 at “Winston-on-the-Staunton,” Charlotte County; Ella, b. 1831, died 1831 in infancy; Ada Byron, born 1835, married Capt. John G. Smith, had children, died at Charlotte Court House, death date unknown; Edward Winston, Jr., born 1840, married Anne Ely of Mariana, Florida, had children, inherited “Winston-on-the-Staunton” in Charlotte Co., and died there before 1904.
      Edward inherited half of his father’s Red Hill estate in Charlotte County and renamed it “Winston on the Staunton.” He was a successful farmer, served as sheriff of Charlotte County 1848-1850, enjoyed horse racing and bird hunting. Edward died October 12, 1872, in Charlotte County. [1]
