Notes |
- James Dabney was born to Gwathmey and Elizabeth (Maddocks) Dabney about 1788/89.
He was probably the James Dabney listed in the Spotsylvania personal property tax lists fom 1809 through 1813. When the 1820 census was taken, a James Dabney was living in neighboring Louisa County with two males 16-25, one male 26-44, one female 16-25, and one female 26-44. Further searches in Louisa tax books is impossible because of their loss after 1800. A James Dabney was listed adjacent to his mother, Elizabeth Dabney, in the 1823 personal property rolls for King William County where he was charged with one slave and one horse. No likely James Dabneys have been found in the 1830 or 1840 censuses.
In the 1850 census for Oldham County, Kentucky, a James Dabney aged 61, born in 1788 or 1789 in Virginia, with no occupation, was living with Mary Dabney, 23, and Robert Dabney, 18, farmer, who were born in Kentucky and living in the household of Ralph B. Tarlton, 41, farmer, and William Tarlton, 23, farmer, both born in Kentucky. No additional information has been found concerning this household. [1, 3]
